I spent two days alone in the ER, and not one member of my in-laws’ family came to see me. When I finally came home, my mother-in-law hurled a frying pan at me. “We’ve been starving for two days!” she screamed. My sister-in-law laughed. “Stop faking it for attention, you lazy burden.” My father-in-law kept watching TV in silence. They thought I was completely alone. They had no idea who had just walked in behind me.

“You have exactly fifteen minutes,” Leo said, looking at his platinum watch. “Fifteen minutes to go upstairs, pack whatever you can carry in two suitcases each, and get the hell out of my house.”
