I spent four years designing a home for my son and hired contractors to build every detail. He looked at it once and said, “It’s not my wife’s style.”

Then he quietly admitted,

“I miss you.”

His words surprised me.

“I miss the son I raised,” I answered honestly.

He lowered his eyes.

“I deserved that.”

“Yes.”

“I handled everything badly.”

“Yes.”

“I should have thanked you.”

“Yes.”

“I never should have suggested selling the property.”

“No.”

“I thought… because you built it for us… that somehow it already belonged to us.”
