And in that warm, sticky hug, I completely understood that life hadn’t given me the picturesque ending I had imagined on the day I got married.
It gave me another one. Less perfect. Weirder. But much, much more mine.
The day I finally signed those divorce papers in Sterling’s office, I honestly thought I was losing a family. But in reality, I was just walking out of a cramped room where they laughed at me, so I could finally enter a massive one where my voice actually mattered.
Carter truly thought I didn’t understand anything. He was dead wrong.
I understood every single word. Every laugh. Every lie. Every plan.
