Our dinner reservation was for seven-thirty.
At seven-ten, Madison started crying in the driveway.

I laughed.

“The house?”

I couldn’t finish.

“Legally belongs to you.”
Everything inside me turned cold.
Dad started talking quickly.

“We maintained the property.”

“We had expenses.”
“I paid the expenses!”
Mom started crying.

He explained that Grandma Evelyn had created the trust after becoming suspicious of Dad’s financial habits.

Dad snapped, “We used it on the family.”

I closed my eyes.
“For what?”
Nobody answered.
“Dad?”
