Jim’s expression tightened.

“Of course,” Jim said quickly.
“And I want an actual apology. Not another explanation.”
There was a long silence.
Finally, Jim nodded.
“I’m sorry. I really am. It started small and went too far.”
Lisa looked at me.
“I’m sorry too. Coming to your door like that was wrong. I knew it was wrong.”
Emma apologized without being asked.
Jake followed.
Tom unlocked the gate.
They left.
