My neighbor tore up my lawn with his motorcycle and acted like it was nothing — the next morning, a little “surprise” was waiting for him.

“He planted it in 1997. I’ve maintained it since he died.”

Dennis listened.

“Yesterday, your son rode a motorcycle through it and told me the flowers would grow back.”

I paused.

“And he’s right.”

Dennis looked confused.

“They will grow back,” I said. “I’ll plant new ones next spring.”
